It is the goal of King’s to equip students for whatever path they may choose beyond their high school education. While the vast majority of King’s graduates pursue a university degree, they are also well prepared for the workforce, having applied the rigorous disciplines of critical inquiry, study and application. Our Student Services Department is poised to assist our students in making wise choices from a wide array of post-secondary options. Requirements for Graduation

King’s is authorized by the Ontario Ministry of Education to grant the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. In accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Education, students are required to remain in school until the age of 18 or have obtained an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Requirements for the OSSD are as follows:

Earn 18 compulsory credits*

4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)
3 credits in Mathematics (at least one credit from grade 11 or 12)
2 credits in Science
1 credit in Canadian Geography
1 credit in Canadian History
1 credit in the Arts
1 credit in Health and Physical Education
1 credit in French as a second language
0.5 credit in Civics (typically earned in Grade 10)
0.5 credit in Career Studies (typically earned in Grade 10)
1 additional credit in English, or a third language, or social sciences and the humanities or Canadian and world studies, or guidance and career education, or cooperative education
1 additional credit in health and physical education, or the arts, or business studies, or cooperative education
1 additional credit in science (grade 11 or 12), or technological education (grades 9 – 12), or cooperative education

*A credit is granted in recognition of the successful completion of a course that has been scheduled for a minimum of 110 hours. Credits are granted by a principal on behalf of the Minister of Education and Training for courses that have been developed or approved by the ministry. A half credit may be granted for each 55-hour part of a 110-hour ministry-developed course. A maximum of 2 credits in cooperative education can count as compulsory credits;

Earn 12 optional credits from the school’s course calendar;
Complete 40 hours of Community Involvement;
Pass the Ontario Secondary Literacy Test (typically written in Grade 10).

Community Involvement Requirements:

Students must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities during their years in the secondary school program. This requirement is to be completed outside the student’s normal instructional hours and in a variety of settings. Students may not complete the hours through activities that are counted towards a credit, through paid work or by assuming duties normally performed by a paid employee. Organizations or persons supervising the activities must confirm completion of the 40 hours. Documentation attesting to the completion of each activity must be submitted. This documentation must include for each activity, the name of the person or organization receiving the service, the activity performed, the dates and hours, signatures of the student and his or her parents and a signed acknowledgement.

Note: Students at King’s are required to take Physical Education in Grade 10 (in addition to Grade 9).

Students at King’s are also required to take three credits in Biblical Studies:

Grade 9 Bible (HRE13)
Grade 10 Bible (HRE23)

Official Ontario universities website. Lots of good links, FAQs, deadlines, etc. Most documents are downloadable.

Peterson’s

Very helpful for international searches and for American schools. Lists private and Christian schools along with publicly funded institutions. Helpful tips about a variety of related topics.

Christian Colleges

Offers info and links for Christian higher education. Includes connections to schools and Bible colleges around the world. An exhaustive site with lots of links to Christian colleges.

Canadian Universities Website Directory

Links to all Canadian universities. Compare and contrast the different universities in Canada by clicking through on this comprehensive university listing to the schools of your choice.
